News from the Upper School
Dear Upper School Parents & Students,
Happy Halloween! I’m delighted to have experienced my first SDS Halloween–and what a treat it was! Thank you to everyone who contributed to today’s wonderful experience–it was truly a spooktacular day! I hope that you enjoy these pictures from the festivities.

The division also enjoyed recognizing and celebrating our fall season athletes earlier this week. Congratulations to those who earned awards! And GOOD LUCK to our Cross Country runners at the State Meet tomorrow!
Special Studies placements were emailed to students this afternoon. Placements were based on seniority and the order of form submission. Financial aid may be available for students with demonstrated need via The Deborah Black Fund. Please reach out (jenny.glenn@sdsgriffin.org) if you are interested in applying for financial aid.
I’m also pleased to share that the Digital Journalism class just published the Autumn Edition of The Talon. The online news publication features interviews, sports reports, the results of the spooky writing competition, and more!
Looking forward, here’s what is on the horizon for the division:
- Sunday, November 2
- Daylight Savings Time–Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour!
- Monday, November 3
- First Day of Winter Athletics
- Tuesday, November 4
- Dent Poetry & Prose Series @ 12:00 PM in the Barnet Theatre
- Wednesday, November 5 - Saturday, November 8
- YIG in Columbia
- Friday, November 7
- Parents’ Community Family Movie Night @ 6 PM on Presnell Front Lawn
- Saturday, November 8

- Monday, November 10
- 11th Grade College Night @ 6:00 PM in the Seminar Room

Winter sports are gearing up, so please check the athletic calendars for the most up-t0-date information. College representatives will continue to be on campus next week–remember, demonstrated interest is an important metric in the collegiate admissions process, so students should be sure to connect with representatives of interest when possible.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful Hallo-weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all in November!
Go Griffins!
Warmly,
Jenny Glenn
