News from the Upper School

I hope this message finds everyone enjoying Fall Break! Mother Nature seems to know we have some time off of school, as the dip in temps for the next few days will offer the perfect stage for spending quality time with family and friends.

Pictured above, Upper Schoolers went all out for Breast Cancer Awareness. Pink Out was a success! Also shown are senior members of Girls' Tennis who received recognition before Tuesday's match.

We return to an E-day on Tuesday. PSAT (grades 8-11) and SAT (select seniors) will be administered on Wednesday, October 11. Seniors not taking the SAT will work on college and scholarship applications with Mrs. Spearman in the library. Look for more detailed testing information coming to your inboxes soon. Students will be dismissed after testing, but lunch and supervision will be provided for students wishing to remain on campus. Students with missing work must stay until assignments are completed and submitted. The end of Q1 is Friday, October 13.

This week was a powerful reminder of how fortunate I feel to be part of the SDS community. Upper School student leaders drove to Chesnee High to show support in their time of need. While there, they spoke with the principal and met the student body president. I felt overwhelming pride as I watched these caring, capable young people open their hearts and offer condolences. It was clear that Tressa and Jake fully understood the weight of their loss - because that loss could have just as quickly been ours. The profound impact of community on student well-being and learning outcomes cannot be overstated. We find the power of belonging here, in our classrooms, on courts and fields, in our art spaces, and wherever we learn and grow together. I speak for everyone in the Upper School when I thank you for allowing us to know, teach, and care for your children. We are grateful.

Best to you all for an enjoyable break!

Sincerely,

Paige
