News from the Upper School
Dear Upper School Parents & Students,
Happy Birthday, Griffins! It was so fun to celebrate another trip around the sun for the Day School–thank you to the Parents’ Community for the spirited “I’m a Griffin!” t-shirts and a wonderful tailgate yesterday evening!

Birthday celebrations aside, the week was filled with learning opportunities–both in and out of the classroom. In Advisory, students thoughtfully brainstormed their own personal “Board of Trustees” – a group of people that they can count on to help them achieve their goals. This theme of supportive community carried over as Upper Schoolers observed a Moment of Silence in honor of 9/11 and reflected on the importance of civil discourse/treating others with kindness, dignity, and respect.
In the classroom, students spent the week tackling direct and indirect objects in Spanish 3, building collages in Intro to Art, annotating a Colonial era political cartoon in AP U.S. History, and analyzing the free fall motion of different fruits as they dropped from the Physics balcony. Our fall athletes competed fiercely in their varying games and matches. Sleepy Hollow rehearsals and jazz band practices are going strong. Freshmen SGA candidates bravely delivered campaign speeches in front of their peers, and Seniors worked diligently on their college applications.
All in all, it was another wonderfully productive week for our Upper Schoolers. Looking towards the coming weeks, here’s what’s on the horizon for the division:

As always, keep an eye on the athletic team calendars for the most up-to-date information. I also want continue to note that many college representatives will visit campus in the coming weeks. As I’ve mentioned, demonstrated interest is an important metric in the collegiate admissions process, so students should be sure to connect with representatives of interest when possible.
I hope that everyone has a restful and relaxing weekend! Go Griffins!
Warmly,
Jenny Glenn
