Athletics at SDS
The Griffin Way
We believe athletics is an extension of the classroom. That philosophy is at the heart of Spartanburg Day School Athletics, where success is measured by much more than wins and losses. We want our student-athletes to discover what they're capable of, learn how to handle challenges, and understand the responsibility that comes with being part of a team.
Our Teacher-Coach Model plays an important role in that experience. When the same people who teach our students in the classroom are also coaching them on the court or playing field, those relationships take on a deeper meaning. Our coaches get to know their students beyond academics, and our students benefit from having mentors who are invested in their growth throughout the school day.
We believe in competing at a high level and taking pride in what it means to be a Griffin. Winning is something we work toward, but it's not the only measure of success. Years from now, we hope our student-athletes look back on their experiences and remember more than the final scores. We hope they remember the lessons they learned, the relationships they built and how those experiences helped shape the people they've become.
