A Love of Learning

Inquiry, collaboration, and the joy of becoming a reader.

Outside, twice a day.

We value inquiry and collaboration, and play-center rotations build self-management, social, and communication skills. Students play outside at least twice a day — critical to physical health, cognitive development, social-emotional growth, and overall well-being.

  • Reading

Personalized small-group instruction meets every child where they are — phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, and high-frequency words. Whole-group lessons build vocabulary, comprehension, handwriting, and a love of literature. Every Kindergarten teacher is trained in Orton-Gillingham, creating strong, confident readers.
  • Writing

Kindergarten writers discover they have important stories to share. Through mentor texts, conversation, and authentic writing, they begin with drawing, storytelling, dictation, labels, and simple sentences — growing into more detailed pieces as phonics, vocabulary, and independence develop.
  • Math

Kindergarten mathematicians build deep conceptual understanding through exploration and hands-on discovery. Using manipulatives, visual models, and daily Number Talks, they count, compare, classify, recognize patterns, explore shapes, and model place value with base-ten blocks.

  • Frontiers

Every K-4 student takes Frontiers, learning through a cycle of thinking, investigating, building, and testing. Kindergartners ask thoughtful questions, explore hands-on, create solutions, and build resilience.
  • Art

Foundations in the elements of art — color wheel, shape, texture — and drawing from simple shapes. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh and Charley Harper; mistakes are part of the creative process.
  • Music

Singing, listening, movement, and instrument play — pitch through vocal warmups, echo and unison songs, percussion, steady beat, folk dances and games, and music from around the world.
  • PE

Fundamental movement — jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping, leaping — plus throwing, catching, and kicking. Routines, music, and cooperative games build teamwork and self-control.
  • Library

Outstanding picture books spark curiosity and imagination. Students explore the values and Key Concepts of the IB PYP and learn that reading is joyful and meaningful.
  • Spanish

Songs, stories, movement, and everyday conversation — “Buenos días”, “¿Qué ves?”, “¿Cuántos hay?”. Vocabulary for school objects, colors, fruits, days of the week, shapes, animals, and plants.
