3K - Building Independence

Developing the whole child and instilling a love of learning.

Learning Lived In Action

Farm-to-Table.
Our 3K students embark on a farm-to-table project, taking active steps to grow their own vegetables, make homemade bread, and sell their goods to the school community.

List of 3 items.

  • Units of Inquiry

    Who We Are
Learning about ourselves helps us connect with others. We learn what makes us unique, how our differences connect us, and how celebrating differences makes us a better community.

    How We Express Ourselves
Materials can be explored and manipulated. We learn the properties of different materials, how materials change, and we can use our creativity to manipulate objects.

    Sharing the Planet
People help us in different ways. We learn how we can help others, about different helpers in our community, and connections between community members.

    How the World Works
Nature influences the way we live. We learn how to observe nature and wildlife, how objects in nature can be sorted into categories, and how to respect our environment.
  • Centers

    Dramatic Play & Kitchen Center
A happy place to role-play, express feelings, dramatize stories, reinvent life experiences, practice social behaviors, and use language skills in a variety of situations.

    Manipulative & Math Center

Children count, sort, group, explore, and investigate hands-on materials - using concrete objects to begin to grasp abstract concepts across every subject area.

    Block Center

Imagining, creating, and constructing with blocks of every size and shape — experimenting with balance, number, and the early ideas of architecture and engineering.

    Science & Discovery Center

Through observation, experiment, and hands-on activity, children discover how things work, develop higher-level thinking, ask questions, and conduct research.

    Writing, Art & Reading Centers

Materials that build fine motor skills, encourage creativity, and grow language, listening, and literacy — plus a quiet reading nook that builds attention and a love of books.
  • Specials

    Library
The first year that 3K students enter the actual library, learning to choose books from high-quality texts with different viewpoints and perspectives.

    Music
Steady-beat work continues with more percussion instruments. In the spring 3K students sing as a group and as soloists, and rehearse the holiday and barnyard concerts.

    Physical Education
Hopping, skipping, throwing, and catching to build coordination and balance. Follow-the-leader, obstacle courses, and rhythm games encourage listening, teamwork, and creative movement.

    Spanish

Polite greetings, "Cómo te llamas?" and "Cómo estás?", colors, counting 1-10, opposites, directional words, and the family.
