2K - Exploration & Discovery

To transform a young child's natural, instinctive need to play into intentional learning.

Play is the foundation of learning.

Six purpose-built centers — Dramatic Play, Manipulative & Math, Block, Science & Discovery, Writing & Art, and Reading - let our youngest learners practice mastered skills while fostering emerging ones.

List of 3 items.

  • Units of Inquiry

    Who We Are
Our body helps us learn about the world around us. We learn the parts of our body, how our bodies change and how our bodies show how we are feeling.

    How We Express Ourselves
Expressing ideas and emotions helps us connect with ourselves and others. We learn how to communicate our feelings and needs, the impact of our words and actions, and how friendships are developed and sustained.

    Sharing the Planet
Earth is a system of resources where humans have positive and negative impact. We learn how trash affects our environment and how we can protect the animals' habitats. We also learn different types of insects, their purpose, how to care for them, and not fear them.

    How We Organize Ourselves
Transportation moves people and goods from one place to another. We learn different types of transportation systems, how different kinds of transportations meets different needs, and how transportation systems connect community.
  • Centers

    Dramatic Play & Kitchen Center
A happy place for children to role-play, express feelings, dramatize stories, reinvent life experiences, practice social behaviors, and use language skills in a variety of ways.

    Manipulative & Math Center
Children count, sort, group, explore, and investigate hands-on materials. Through concrete materials they begin to understand abstract concepts and apply this thinking across all curriculum subjects.

    Block Center
Children imagine, create, and construct with blocks of all sizes, shapes, and materials - experimenting with balance, number, and shape, and forming early ideas of architecture and engineering.

    Science & Discovery Center
Through observation, experiment, and hands-on activity, children discover how things work, develop higher-level thinking, ask questions, and conduct research.

    Writing & Art Center
Materials that build fine motor skills, strengthen hand muscles for pre-writing and handwriting, encourage creativity, and practice language, listening, and literacy skills.
  • Specials

    Art
Recognizing colors and shapes; building self-esteem and creativity through new materials like paint, oil crayons, and pastels. Every project supports fine-motor development, personal expression, and following multi-step directions.

    Library

Moving from short, vibrant "touch and feel" books to more complex texts that encourage predictions and story structure.

    Music
Students sustain a natural steady beat through percussion, vocalize together in groups, and grow their music memory by filling in familiar parts of songs. Beat-motion movement, spoken poems with strong rhythm, and song stories round out the year.

    Physical Education
A focus on motor skills, coordination, and a love of movement through playful, age-appropriate activities. Running, jumping, crawling, and balancing build gross-motor strength; throwing and stacking refine fine-motor control. Music-and-rhythm games like dancing and clapping support coordination, body awareness, and joyful interaction with peers.

    Spanish
Through conversation, games, and song, 2K students greet one another with "Hola" and "Adios" and learn to ask "Como te llamas tu?" They build vocabulary for body parts, numbers 1 to 5, the colors rojo, amarillo, and azul, directional words such as arriba and abajo, and emotion words like feliz and triste.
